Interview with In The Long Run!
Category: Interviews
We’re happy to post our first Discover Unsigned interview! Today we interviewed four-piece Rock/Pop-Punk group In The Long Run, an awesome band from Surrey, UK.
Thanks for the opportunity guys.
- So how long have you guys been together? We formed in about November 2007.
Myself [Tom], Dan and Matt played in another band, which came to an end due
to another member going off to university, which is when we started looking
for a new singer. We knew Diego from various places and knew he had a voice
on him. He came along to a couple of practises, and things just pretty much
worked out really well. But Winter 2007 was the starting point of In The
Long Run.
- Where did the band name come from? To be honest, we were talking amongst
each other about band names for a good month or so. When we recorded our
first track, we still hadn’t decided. But we had a few ideas running around,
and I pretty much bullied a couple of people into choosing In The Long Run
haha.
- Who are your favorite bands right now? Right now we’re digging The
Auteur, Blue Sky Summer and Look! I’m A Ghost in terms of local talent.. But on the major scale you can’t beat a good bit of Finch, Glassjaw, Funeral For A Frend or some classic Busted.
- What are your main aspirations for this year? This year is just our
starting off period. We’re recording our three track EP with Jason Wilcock
[Fightstar, You Me At Six, Reuben] at Stakeout Studios in June, and it
should be available at shows from July onwards. But we’re mainly just
getting In The Long Run to be a small stain on such a vast scene at the
moment. We’ve still only just got a full set down. So the demand we’ve had
has been overwhelming and we’ve already had some awesome opportunities
thrown our way. So fingers crossed for some more good things!
- So tell us a little about your song writing process. So far, we’ve written
all our songs around a guitar riff. We kinda hum a melody and then
transcribe it as best we can to a guitar. To be fair, our drummer’s had his
fair share of melodic masterpieces! The chorus riff for The Lights Are Off
was all his work. But then he really shown his worth with a killer beat to
go over the top. Next we all try and figure out a complimenting bass line
which works with both the drums and guitar. Then we leave Diego to get his
vocal melody process on. We haven’t been brave enough to try 2 way vocals,
but i think it’s on the cards for one of the tracks on our demo.
- What’s the greatest thing about playing live music? I’d say that the
best thing is probably either being able to get the crowd to participate,
even if it’s just to clap along to a small section of one song. If they go
along with it. It’s just like.. yeahh, i kicked that off! orr it’s having
someone come up to you at the end and saying that they’d enjoyed listening
to us. Knowing that at least one person has enjoyed us makes us feel
amazing.
- What’s the best venue you’ve ever played? We got asked to play at a nightclub in Kingston called Oceana on a student night. It was intense. Such
a buzzing atmosphere and the place was absolutely massive.
- What would you do if you got signed? I’d be utterly speechless! I’d
probably run down the high street screaming like a crazy man. Then ring our
close friends and let them know what’s gone down!
Thanks for the great interview guys!
In The Long Run will be back in the studio in late April/May to record the third song for their EP which will then be available at shows and online! Be sure to check out Their Myspace!. You wont be dissapointed!
