Cut The Blue Wire!

Category: Post-punk, electro, pop

A five piece band from Portsmouth, Hampshire, Cut The Blue Wire are making a name for themselves around the UK. XFM say the band has ‘Sentiments of At The Drive-In, the soul of Enter Shikari and the twister ambience of Bloc Party’, all making a powerful combination! Cut The Blue Wire have some great upcoming shows over the next few months; the latter part of the tour will coincide with the band releasing their debut E.P ready for summer!

Midgar!

Category: Progressive, alternative, rock

Midgar are an exciting new band from Guildford, bringing musicians from very established backgrounds into an outfit capable of creating sounds like no other on the scene today. Already compared to the epic melodic grace of Fightstar, Midgar built their sound on four part vocal harmony, big open chords and brutal beatdowns that challenge the might of the heaviest bands. They are currently booking shows around the UK, so make sure you catch this band live as soon as you can!

15th Day!

Category: rock

15th Day are a Rock / Progressive band from Surrey, UK. They don’t like to stick to specific genres, and produce their own pretty unique sound. They just finished their debut EP entitled ‘Back To The Skies’ which was produced by the band themselves, and have supported acts such as LA Rockers ‘Boy Hits Car’. All their songs have a certain unique quality, and are all equally as catchy. If you do nothing else today, go and check these guys out!

- Their EP is available through their myspace priced at £2.99!

Interview with ‘Keeping Pace With Planes’!

Category: Interviews

We’re happy to post our third Discover Unsigned interview! This time we interviewed six-piece Rock / Pop / Experimental group Keeping Pace With Planes, a great band from Cannock, UK!

How long have you guys been together?
We have been together since January 07. We formed from a load of other local bands and it just clicked instantly. Everyone knew each other but we were all to scared to say hello haha.

Where did the band name come from?
Cal, Sam and Tom were in a band called Renfield who wanted to add more members and they kicked there old drummer out, got Joe (our former drummer) and started playing from there. I (stefan) knew sam and cal through other friends and we just got talking and as a joke i said yeah i will play in your band… and things took of from there, our drummer joe left just after christmas and we decided that sam should play drums not bass since his idol is aaron gillespie (underoath drummer) so he went onto drums and we were good friends with rich who had done our promos and we recruited him on bass.

What would you say are the biggest musical influences for you as a group?
Lots of stuff. Cal’s dad is one of those old school rockers as is mine (stefan) ive been brought up on things such as bruce springstein and johhny cash where as everyone else seems to be rooted into the more modern stuff like Underoath and Valencia. We love unsigned bands from teh UK and US, we check out local bands all the time and we love nothing more than finding a new band and claiming we “founded” them.

Who are your favorite bands right now?
We all listen to reletivley the same stuff, Underoath, Cartel, A day to remember etc etc, but we still seem rooted in our old school like Usher and Blink 182 and stuff like that…

What are your main aspirations for this year?
We want to get signed by a major label, its high ambitions but we are all keen on doing this as our full tiem job so it seems realistic to do it. We just want to tour as much as possible and get people to know ouor music!

Tell us a little about your song writing process.
We just put random lyrics together and make songs. We come up with guitar riffs and just add things on fro there… its all pretty simple.

What’s the greatest thing about playing live music?
The crowd, The girls and the Beer!

What’s the best venue you’ve ever played?
Probly Kingsmead high School or recently we played the rock cafe which was local, both shows were packed out, it was great!

What would you do if you got signed?
We would probly become really arrogant and pretend we didnt know any of our old friends… haha! =) jokes!
We would love it, we wouldnt have money worries so life would be great!

Thanks for the interview guys!

Keeping Pace With Planes have some great upcoming shows over summer, so go check them out!

Buffalo Alice!

Category: alternative, rock

Buffalo Alice was formed by singer/songwriter Alex Aaron in the spring of 2004 from the ashes of alternative rock band G.B. Fuzz. Aaron started writing new songs and reworking old ones to make them friendly to an acoustic act under the new name. After many hours doing some collaborating with different musicians, he has arrived at the sound that is Buffalo Alice. Their brand of power pop based alternative-country rock and ballads have a distinctly southern flavor to them, yet remain unmarred by the normal images that spring to mind when someone thinks of southern music. They’re definitely one to watch.

Discover Unsigned Debut Album!

Category: Site Announcements

Ok guys, the time has come to reveal a little more about our debut ‘Unsigned Album’. Some of you may remember us mentioning this in our first post, and many of you may have seen the ‘coming soon’ notice on our Albums Page. We’ve been working really hard to get an awesome album together for you, despite not talking about it a whole lot. We’ve worked behind the scenes with a lot of great bands to secure some truly great tracks.

The idea behind the albums is to reward unsigned talent with massive exposure and generous royalties. The albums will be downloadable format only to start with, as this takes away any production costs for us, and means bigger royalties for our artists. Each album will be sold for $6, and will consist of 10 tracks by 10 different unsigned artists. Each artist will receive $0.50 per sale for just ONE track! The remaining $1 will go to me and Matt (the other co-founder), and we’ll be pouring these dollars into promoting the album. What’s great for artists is that the albums will be sold indefinitely, so they will receive royalties at the end of EVERY month!

We’ve already received a lot of interest from people wanting to buy the albums, so we anticipate them being a big hit within the music community. The debut album should, with any luck, be released June 1st, and all subsequent monthly albums released at the 1st of each month. This means that if you don’t make it on to our debut June album, you can apply for any future albums no problem.

We’ve nearly finished compiling our debut album, but IT’S NOT TOO LATE for bands to apply! We’re still happy to review applications for truly great unsigned tracks. If you’re interested in watching your monthly sales build up, and a whole new audience listening to your music then please apply here today!

I can personally say that I must have listened to the album almost 100 times (it’s becoming a little obsessive), and it’s not getting old. It’s really a cross-section of the best unsigned talent, encompassing many genres, and drawing artists from all over the world!

If you have any questions please drop us a comment and I’d be happy to provide any further info. Apart from that I hope that you’ll continue coming back to check out the latest/greatest unsigned bands, and check back at the start of June to witness our album launch!
