Interview With ‘I Haunt Wizards!’

Category: Interviews

We’re happy to post another Discover Unsigned interview! This time we interviewed three-piece Indie / Alternative / Electro group I Haunt Wizards, a great band from London, UK. Interview answered by Zac - Drums.

So how long have you guys been together?
We’ve only been going since late october last year, so about 5 months but me and dexter have been making music together since we were about 14 and ihauntwizards is the end result!

Where did the band name come from?
One of our favourite games called Hocus Pocus, its an old lil 16bit game i belive on the sega, had to give reference to something really cool, we would have loved to called ourselves I Haunt Will Smith but i dont think he would have been very happy!

What would you say are the biggest musical influences for you as a group?
Mainly alot of 80’s music, such as duran duran, blondie, the smiths to name a few. Also alot of early nineties pop/american hip hop can be heard in our newer stuff! were lovin ChannelU at the moment!

Who are your favorite bands right now?
Currently I’ve got a mix of Glassjaw, the cribs and alot of the smiths/the cure and recently browsing into joy division. But there is some crazy crazy japanese pop floating round when i whack on shuffle which is really a fave!

What are your main aspirations for this year?
Ah well to be honest we couldnt ask for more than we’ve already achieved its been really hectic! But if we were to be really greedy we’d love to end up on tv that would be awesome, mind you i would really like to see some different parts of the uk on a tour!

Tell us a little about your song writing process.
ahh its really weird, it mainly happens from 11pm-3am in a really dark room with a lot of black coffee and our pickachu mascot! We usally end up playing round with sounds for a couple of hours and then build on a FUNKAY bass line!

What’s the greatest thing about playing live music?
Personally i love the little things like just seeing people nod their head to your music. I really appreciate that :] and when the bass kicks in; thats sweeeet on some 5zillion watt p.a

What’s the best venue you’ve ever played?
I have to say i really enjoyed playing at a little club up in harrow in london called the trinity bar it was really tiny and just had a niceeee atmosphere, but for things like live acoustics The Brook in southampton was very very nice!

What would you do if you got signed?
Keep a secret until all my friends saw me on the tele that would be funny ;] and ask to support will smith on tour that would be PUKKA!

Thanks for the interview guys!

I Haunt Wizards have some great upcoming shows, and wont disappoint! Go and check them out!

Jonathan Cutrell!

Category: Acoustic, Indie, rock

Jonathan Cutrell is an Acoustic/Indie/Rock artist from Cleveland, Tennessee. You get more than you expect from this guy, from great catchy lyrics, to impressive melodies. He combines good old fashioned American rock with more modern sounds, influenced by the likes of The Rocket Summer. Musically, his songs are reminiscent of The Hold Steady’s older stuff, but fused with Jonathan’s original vocal style, they make a great combination! Someone needs to pick this guy up!

Tim Staples!

Category: Acoustic, Singer/Songwriter, folk

Tim is an example of true talent in the unsigned music world. With one of the best voices that we’ve heard in a while and a vast range of influences from David Gray to Ray Lamontagne, it’s very easy to imagine this guy going places. His acoustic tracks mix subtle percussion and keyboard (all played by himself) resulting in some incredibly relaxed music. His debut self-released album is now available on Itunes and we definitely recommend that you check it out! We’re happy to say that Tim will be part of our upcoming unsigned album!

Stickboy!

Category: Indie, folk, pop

Stickboy classes himself a ‘Melodramatic Popular Song / Folk / Indie’ artist. Hailing from Manchester, with its already well established music scene, Stickboy seems to be getting a name for himself on the circuit. His music is reminiscent of artists such as The Shins, and is something you could easily listen to on a summers day. He has a new limited CD album coming soon called ‘Under The Sleepy Moon,’ and can also be found on iTunes. He’s definitely worth listening to, and as summer approaches, I know for certain he’ll be on my playlists!
