The Small Screen Light Show are a very talented Indie / Alternative band from the UK. They will no doubt knock you back with their hard edge melodic Indie style. With a distinctive voice and different style, the music is not your basic indie sound, but is definitely very catchy. I like the development of musical direction these guys are taking, with their up beat style that reminds me of ye olden days when new wave music was getting mixed up with rock. You’ve got to check these guys out and let them know what you think!

Jonathan Cutrell is an Acoustic/Indie/Rock artist from Cleveland, Tennessee. You get more than you expect from this guy, from great catchy lyrics, to impressive melodies. He combines good old fashioned American rock with more modern sounds, influenced by the likes of The Rocket Summer. Musically, his songs are reminiscent of The Hold Steady’s older stuff, but fused with Jonathan’s original vocal style, they make a great combination! Someone needs to pick this guy up!

Stickboy classes himself a ‘Melodramatic Popular Song / Folk / Indie’ artist. Hailing from Manchester, with its already well established music scene, Stickboy seems to be getting a name for himself on the circuit. His music is reminiscent of artists such as The Shins, and is something you could easily listen to on a summers day. He has a new limited CD album coming soon called ‘Under The Sleepy Moon,’ and can also be found on iTunes. He’s definitely worth listening to, and as summer approaches, I know for certain he’ll be on my playlists!

Luken Layer are a 5 piece indie-punk band from Bury St Edmunds. Their hard hitting style is refreshing to hear, while the edgy guitar riffs and catchy vocal melodies go hand in hand. Their songs will have you singing along in no time, and I think they’re a band to watch in 2008! Luken Layer currently have a demo EP on sale, and a number of gigs booked over summer. Unlike other groups, each member of THE SHAKE is schooled in a different style of music, and draws from a wide pool of influences including rock, blues, jazz, and punk. The result is what they call “a constantly evolving, more musically diverse style of rock that utilizes distinct melodies and harmonies in order to maintain a straightforward and familiar feel that still sounds fresh.”
For the new album, the band chose to take a different approach to their songwriting. “On the last album, we chose to just throw down whatever lyrics came to mind for the song. This time, we decided to take a bit more time with them. The songs themselves are very upbeat and exciting but have lyrics that are more mature, which we thought was an interesting contrast.” This band have a great, unique sound and I can see them getting far! I wouldn’t be surprised if their songs get stuck in your head for days. Watch out, these guys are going to be big!
